NATIONAL STADIUM KARACHI

The National Stadium is a cricket stadium in Karachi, Pakistan. It is currently used for cricket matches, and is home to Karachi's domestic cricket teams. The stadium is able to hold 34,228 spectators, making it the second largest cricket stadium in Pakistan after Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Its widely criticised that the city of this size with a population of over 15 million having such a small capacity stadium. In the recent past, PCB has announced on different occasions that the capacity of the stadium will be increased to 50,000 but this approval looks a bit stale at the moment.
The Pakistani cricket team have a remarkable Test record at the ground, having only lost twice (vs. England, December 2000-01, and South Africa, October 2007-08) and have won 21 times in 40 Test Matches and in over 50 years. The stadium has witnessed several memorable moments, such as Viv Richards 181 against Sri Lanka at the 1987 Cricket World Cup, Mohammad Yousuf's record ninth century of the year to break Viv Richards record of most runs in a calendar year, and Kamran Akmal's famous century against India on a very difficult pitch in 2006, after Pakistan had collapsed to 39 for 6, as part of a memorable come-from-behind victory.

LOAD SHEDDING IN KARACHI

Artificial Load shedding
Another core issue of Karachi is the lack of electricity, which is mostly an artificial crisis increasing the problems of the citizens and frustrating them. Karachi being an economical hub with thousands of industries and factories, traders and businessmen all over the city is suffering due to the lack of electricity as load shedding is being done during working hours due to which the economy of city is getting down rapidly. Persons responsible for the artificial load shedding should know that Karachi is earning 68% of the total revenue of Pakistan. Enmity with Karachi is enmity with Pakistan and its economy.
Not only traders and business man are suffering but citizens from all walks of life are suffering due to artificial load shedding especially students. Nowadays there are examinations of all boards underway including Intermediate, Post and Pre Graduate and students are suffering from long lasting load shedding and their studies and examination preparations are suffering greatly. Besides all these prominent problems due to load shedding there are many domestic problems occurring which are becoming the cause of mental torture for citizens which is increasing the frustration among the citizens. In this extremely hot weather, lack of electricity is increasing. The lack of water and water supply in domestic and industrial areas is being affected, further increasing the problems of city and citizens.
The related officials are being silent and careless, with regards to the artificial crisis. It is a clear indication that this artificial crisis has some reason and might be a part of political feud from which citizens are suffering.
In this regard, City council Naib City Nazim and City Nazim extended their hands towards KECS and offered them that they are ready to cooperate on any thing for the solution of the crisis but KESC officials did not respond to the offer, may be due to political pressures.

KARACHI PROBLEM

Karachi : A problem ?
Karachi is a heart of Pakistan carrying multi cultural values from all over the subcontinent and the economical hub, finance generator of Pakistan, generating 68% of revenue for Pakistan. Sudden and rapid growth of problems are taking place in the city due to which citizens from all walks of life are suffering, from business men to school children and students. Main cause of sudden growth may be the result of political rifts and differences amongst the political parties due to which citizens are largely suffering.
Pillion Riding Ban:
Pillion riding ban was imposed for 3 days last year in November which is still imposed. It has greatly increased the problems for the citizens and they are forced to travel in rickshaws, busses and taxies unwillingly paying unfair demanded fares. Knowing the problem that they cannot travel on bikes, drivers and bus conductors ultimately demand unfair fares and rents to their destination and due to which they often misbehave with passengers knowing that they (citizens) do not have any other option for travel.
Besides the demand of unfair fare, other hitch is the increasing robbery and looting in busses. It is becoming the usual that armed robbers get in the busses, rob people without any hesitation and then get off from the bus at the next stop, no prominent cure is provided for this problem.
New fashion of transport strike (wheel jam) is increasing and it is not wrong to say that these strikes are being backed by the political party and mostly strikes are called for political motives. Yes! The motives are political but citizens suffer. A person who is earning on a daily basis won’t be able to earn because transport is not available due to strike and cannot travel on a bike along with his friend because there is a ban on pillion riding in the city and the same goes for the students and citizens from all walks of life.
Citizens, who were caught doing pillion ridings for some reasons, were caught and convicted in police stations and then later on released on bail. Youngsters and students suffered the most from this as they were forcefully criminalized and convicted to the lockups of local police stations with handcuffs on.
Literate citizens of Karachi especially youngsters and students are treated as professional criminals in the name of pillion riding and by convicting and locking them up, impression is given that the citizens including youngsters and students are professional criminals. Instead of terrorists, murderers and robbers, police lockups seem to be filled with literate citizens.
Few days ago, a student of 1sy year (intermediate part1) missed his exam when he was getting towards his examination center at gulzar e hijri on a bike along with his brother and he was caught and convicted for pillion riding and missed his examination on that day.

PROBLEM FACES BY KARACHI

TRAFFIC & LATE MARRAIGE
Karachi is Pakistan’s biggest city and it’s growing tremendously, so are its problems. Karachiites are suffering from variety of problems. Terrorism, water scarcity, high prices, pollution, unemployment; there is no dearth of problems when it comes to Karachi so I was not impressed when I read a claim by Samandari Baba, that Pakistan’s biggest problem is Kashmir and Karachi’s biggest problems are traffic and delayed marriages of girls. He requested the Government to solve the problem of traffic in Karachi on priority basis and requested first lady of Pakistan to do something about the social problems especially the delay of marriage of girls. The self proclaimed saint, who lives somewhere in Defence also claimed that he went to sea and lived there for 40 days inside water and returned to the city only to warn about a possible Tsunami which may struck incase nothing is done to solve these problems. It was 4 months ago and I forgot it on the same day as the claim seemed nothing but insanity.
But, recently, when I read a story in the newspapers that traffic jams in Karachi have claimed around 500 lives, in just two months, as ambulances could not find way to the city hospitals, due to choked roads, the claim by Samandari Baba flashed into my mind. If an insane person is concerned about the precious lives being lost on the Karachi’s road, what sane people or doing to solve this? Many new roads and underpasses are under construction but the roads are squeezing beneath ever increasing vehicles. With no mass transit system in sight, there is little hope of solution in the near future.
Marriage ceremonies could be delayed if people are stuck in traffic jams but what Samandari Baba meant was delay of marriages due to non-availability of suitable match. Girls marry with boys and boys need to settle themselves before they can plan about their marriage. With millions of educated boys remaining unemployed, this social problem is increasing day by day, in the country but why to highlight Karachi. Perhaps, large segment of the Karachi’s population falls in the middle class which is educated and depends only on jobs for income. Girls are mostly highly educated and parents find it very difficult to find a proper match and many families could be seen facing this problem. Time is crucial factor for girls because with increasing age, chances of getting good match decrease. Girls have no choice but to wait in homes or find jobs to kill the time. Most of the parents do not like to trust marriage bureaus. The problem is also affecting boys as it takes a long time for them to settle down even if they get jobs due to rising costs. Due to increase in this problem, many people could now be seen living a bachelor’s life.
Social problems are usually not considered problems at all and except few NGOs, nobody likes to think about them. Government authorities remain occupied in only contemplating about bigger issue. Even if they take action to solve various problems, it does not match with the scale of problems. Over the last decades, Pakistan has seen steep rise in poverty, corruption, crimes, disharmony, lack of trust on institutions and frustration in the people. Society is under immense pressure and on the verge of anarchy. It disheartening to note that in the absence of any real effort to address these issues, there is little hope for improvement. The claim of coming Tusnami by Samandari Baba might be an allusion but history tells us, when people do not try to solve their own problems, they are left on the mercy of others.

INTRODUCTION TO MY CITY KARACHI

Karachi (Urdu: کراچی, Sindhi: ڪراچي) is the largest city, main seaport and the financial capital of Pakistan, and the capital of the province of Sindh. With a city population of 18.5 million, Karachi is one of the world's largest cities in terms of population, 13th largest urban agglomeration (2006), the 4th largest metropolitan area in the world, and the 2nd largest city within the Organisation of the Islamic Conference. It is Pakistan's premier centre of banking, industry, and trade. Karachi is home to Pakistan's largest corporations, including those that are involved in textiles, shipping, automotive industry, entertainment, the arts, fashion, advertising, publishing, software development and medical research. The city is a major hub of higher education in South Asia and the wider Islamic world. Karachi is ranked as a Beta world city.
Karachi enjoys its prominent position partly because of its location on a bay, making it the financial capital of the country. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the world. It was the original capital of Pakistan until the construction of Islamabad and is the location of the Port of Karachi and Port Bin Qasim, one of the region's largest and busiest ports. After the independence of Pakistan, the city's population increased dramatically when hundreds of thousands of Urdu speaking migrants or Muhajirs from India, East Pakistan (later Bangladesh) and other parts of South Asia came to settle in the city.
Karachi city is spread over 3,530 km2 (1,360 sq mi) in area, almost five times bigger than Singapore. It is locally known as the "City of Lights" (روشنین جو شهر) and "The bride of the cities" (عروس البلاد) for its liveliness, and the "City of the Quaid" (شهرِ قائد), having been the birth and burial place of Quaid-e-Azam (Muhammad Ali Jinnah), the founder of Pakistan, who made the city his home after Pakistan's independence.
